01 / METHOD

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the clear opening width and height.
  2. Choose the front arrangement and inset or overlay fit.
  3. Enter the reveal gap for inset work or overlay amount for overlay work.

02 / APPLICATION

Useful in the workshop

  • Size an inset drawer front
  • Lay out paired overlay doors
  • Keep reveals consistent across a cabinet

03 / MODEL

Assumptions

  • Inset gaps apply on every outside edge; paired doors also use the entered center gap.
  • Overlay is measured beyond each outside opening edge; the center gap is entered separately.
  • Paired doors are equal width.

04 / CHECKS

Limitations and safety

  • Does not account for hinge cup clearances, edge profiles, door sag, or box out-of-square.
  • Verify every opening and hardware requirement before machining fronts.

Before cutting: independently verify important dimensions, angles, clearances, material behavior, and machine settings. Use safe procedures appropriate to your tools and material.

05 / QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

How are paired inset doors calculated?

The opening width loses two outside gaps plus one center gap, then the remainder is divided equally.

Should every opening use the same measured size?

No. Measure each cabinet after assembly; small box variations can be visible in consistent reveals.
