Results can be wrong
Calculator outputs can contain errors caused by software, formulas, rounding, browser behavior, misunderstood conventions, or incorrect inputs. Verify important results independently with another method and on scrap before committing project material.
Dimensions and lumber estimates
Nominal and actual lumber dimensions, supplier tally practices, prices, grades, moisture content, defects, milling loss, and waste vary. Board-foot and cost results do not promise the amount or quality of usable material a project will require.
Cut plans and sheet layouts
Optimizers use heuristics and may not find the minimum material plan. Layout diagrams are not a cutting sequence. They do not account for defects, grain or face direction unless explicitly stated, tool capacity, workpiece support, kickback risk, blade reach, or reusable offcuts. Develop a safe sequence for your equipment.
Angles and joinery
Saw scales, molding conventions, cutter diameter, runout, stock thickness, material compression, and machine calibration affect the finished joint. Confirm reference faces, angle conventions, and clearances. Make test cuts and fit the actual mating parts.
Wood movement
Movement results are simplified estimates based on published representative shrinkage values and a linear moisture model. Actual boards and environments vary. Use joinery and fasteners that permit movement, and obtain qualified design advice when failure could damage property or cause injury.
Machine safety
Woodworking machinery and cutting tools can cause severe injury. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, use suitable guarding, workholding, dust control, and protective equipment, and seek hands-on instruction if you are unfamiliar with an operation. Never adjust or measure a machine while dangerous parts are moving.
